First Place Duck Race Winner Could Qualify for $1 Million

RAPID CITY, SD – This year’s 21st Annual Great Black Hills Duck Race, on Sunday, July 25, will once again offer participants a chance to win $1 million. The event benefits the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) in the Black Hills.

The duck finishing first in the race will win a guaranteed $5,000 from Rapid City area McDonald’s restaurants. That duck will also have a chance of winning its “owner” $1 million, sponsored by the Med 5 Federal Credit Union. Out of the approximately 17,000 ducks racing, five will have been preselected as “Million Dollar Ducks.” If the first place duck is one of those five ducks, then it will win $1 million.

You can still sponsor ducks for the race. The cost to enter a duck in the race is $5. Those who sponsor five ducks will receive a free duck race T-shirt and duck tags. Ducks can be purchased from Rapid City Regional Hospital teams, community teams served by Rapid City Regional Hospital, or at the Rapid City CMN office, located in the Black Hills Medical Office Building, 677 Cathedral Drive, Suite 308. You can also order ducks online at the Rapid City Regional Hospital web site at http://www.rcrhfoundation.org/.

“21 Duck Salute to Kids’” is the theme of this year’s Great Black Hills Duck Race. Activities begin at 1 p.m., on July 25, with kids’ games and souvenirs sold at Memorial Park. The Drop of the Flock will be at 2 p.m., the same day, near the West Main Street McDonald’s. The 1.5 mile race ends at Memorial Park. More than $24,000 in prizes will be awarded to this year’s winners – the first 37 ducks to cross the finish line.

CMN helps make medical miracles happen for children throughout the Black Hills area served by Rapid City Regional Hospital. With money raised through special events, CMN is able to purchase medical equipment and fund programs for children’s services. One hundred percent of the money raised locally stays within the area.
