RAPID CITY, SD - The South Dakota Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has renewed a grant to the John T. Vucurevich Regional Cancer Care Institute (CCI). Funds totaling $21,311.55 are available April 11, 2010 through March 31, 2011.
Grant monies are available, based on a needs assessment, to breast cancer patients in rural locations in western South Dakota needing cancer treatment. Those who travel more than 50 miles to receive cancer care at CCI are eligible to receive funding assistance for transportation, food and lodging during their treatment.
The grant will be administered through the CCI Breast Health Navigator Program. Through it patients can receive help with referrals, appointment scheduling, obtaining medications, payment issues, understanding diagnosis and treatment information, and locating additional support and resources.
