Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital Nurse Supervisor Receives Certifications

DEADWOOD, SD – Dorna Kightlinger, RN, CNOR, CGRN, Nurse Supervisor of Surgical Services at Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital, was recently certified in Gastroenterology Nursing by the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology Nurses, Inc. (ABCGN).

Certification is awarded to individuals who meet eligibility criteria based on experience as a registered nurse with at least two years in gastroenterology or endoscopy nursing and a four hour exam that covers four major content areas: general nursing care, gastroenterologic procedures, patient care interventions, and professional standards and responsibilities. According to the ABCGN, research shows that certified nurses make fewer mistakes and experience fewer adverse events in patient care, feel more confident, make better decisions and are effective team members.

“I decided to go for this certification to add to my CNOR (certified nurse, operating room) since we have quite a few endoscopy patients and I want to provide our patients with the best care possible,” said Kightlinger.

Certification is awarded for a five-year period. Candidates can maintain certification by taking the current exam or by fulfilling the recertification contact hour requirements.
